Why I choose cypress?
The Cypress Macrocarpa trees I log and sawmill are trees that were planted up to 100 years ago by farmers who were using them as windbreaks. As these trees reach such an old age, the branches break off and the trees are being blown over, causing damage to the surrounds. Also the fronds from the cypress trees that fall onto the ground, if eaten by cows, cause abortion to unborn calves.
Due to these reasons, farmers are no longer wanting the cypress trees on their properties. Instead of the cypress trees simply being cut down and burnt in a pile, I work with the farmers to restore the land to it's natural state or get it ready for the planting of native trees instead. I cut down the cypress trees myself, then take the logs and turn them into stunning timbers that can be appreciated for many years to come.
